FAQ
Questions owners ask us.
If yours is not here, the contact form takes thirty seconds and we read every message.
- Where are you based?
- We are based in Cypress, Texas, in the northwest Houston suburbs. Most of our clients are within a two-hour drive of the office, though we do take selective engagements across the state.
- What size companies do you work with?
- Owner-led American businesses between roughly $1M and $25M in revenue. Below that, the engagement structure doesn't quite fit. Above that, you usually need a different kind of help than we offer.
- How quickly can you start?
- We typically have two to four weeks of lead time before a new engagement begins. We deliberately keep our active client load small so that the owner always knows who is working on their business.
- Do you sell software?
- No. We are not affiliated with any software vendor and we do not take referral fees. If a tool is right for the business, we'll say so and step out of the room while you talk to them.
- Will I work with Reynard directly?
- Yes. Every engagement is led by Reynard. We bring in a small bench of senior advisors for specialized work, but you will always know who is on the account and you will always have Reynard's direct line.
- How is pricing structured?
- Most engagements are fixed-fee with a defined scope. Fractional COO work is monthly. We do not bill by the hour. Pricing is shared in writing during the proposal, after the diagnostic week.
- Do you take equity instead of fees?
- No. We take cash. We have strong opinions about why advisors and operators should not be paid the same way.
- What if we decide it's not a fit?
- Then we stop. Diagnostic week is the natural off-ramp — if either side has doubts at that point, we part on good terms and you keep the diagnostic.
- Do you sign NDAs?
- Yes, routinely. The case studies on this site have names changed where we promised confidentiality, and we are happy to provide references on request once we have a mutual NDA in place.
- Do you work with companies outside Texas?
- Occasionally. About 80% of our engagements are in Texas. We make exceptions for companies in similar industries where we have strong pattern recognition.
- What industries are you not a fit for?
- Consumer apps, venture-backed startups pre-revenue, restaurants, and healthcare delivery. There is good help out there for each of those — it just isn't us.
- How long does an engagement last?
- Operations and growth engagements run 10 to 14 weeks. Fractional COO engagements run 6 to 18 months. Leadership coaching is typically a 6-month commitment with the option to renew.
- Do you work with private equity portfolio companies?
- Yes, when the operating partner is on the same page as the owner about the engagement. We do not take work where the relationship is adversarial — it doesn't end well for anyone.
- Can you help us hire a real COO?
- Yes. Many of our fractional engagements end with us helping the owner scope the role, build the comp package, and interview finalists. We do not take placement fees.
- How do you protect confidential information?
- All written deliverables stay on systems we control. We do not share client logos publicly without written permission. We do not discuss one client with another.
- Will you talk to my CPA, lawyer, or banker?
- Of course. Many of our engagements involve a working relationship with the owner's outside advisors. Coordination is part of the job.
- How do we get started?
- Book a discovery call from the Contact page. Thirty minutes, no slides, no pressure. If it feels like a fit, we'll propose a diagnostic week within two business days.
- Do you offer ongoing retainer work after an engagement?
- Sometimes. About a third of our clients come back for a second engagement within two years. We do not push standing retainers — they tend to dull both sides.
